Artificial intelligence (AI) is the broad effort to build systems that perform tasks normally associated with human intelligence, such as perception, reasoning, planning, or language use. Machine learning (ML) is the dominant modern approach: instead of hand-coding rules, a system improves at a task using data and a learning algorithm, most prominently large neural networks trained on large datasets.
This subject groups concepts whose central object is an AI or machine-learning model, learning problem, training process, evaluation method, or application. A mathematical or computational tool used by ML belongs in Mathematics or Numerical Methods & Optimization instead when the tool itself is the concept being explained.
